Twelve-cylinder engine

The twelve-cylinder engine in the BMW 7 Series now represents the technological benchmark in this market segment. It incorporates Valvetronic, a system that variably masterminds the lift motion of twenty-four intake valves.

Total consumption (combined): from 13.4 to 13.6 ltr/100 km. CO2 emissions combined: from 325 to 330 g/km.

Further information on the official fuel consumption and on the official specific CO2 emissions of new automobiles can be found in the guidelines on fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of new automobiles which are available free of charge at all retail outlets and from DAT Deutsche Automobil Treuhand GmbH, Helmut-Hirth-Str. 1, 73760 Ostfildern-Scharnhausen, Germany.

This controls the flow of combustion air into the engine with supreme accuracy, thereby reducing both fuel consumption and exhaust emissions significantly. Allowing a high compression ratio, the fuel direct injection system ensures maximum output of 327 kW (445 PS).

This injection technology does not require intake manifolds, so fuel is injected directly into each cylinder and mixed with air prior to ignition, helping the large six-litre engine attain its full potential in terms of output, torque, fuel economy and emission control.

In conjunction with further highlights in technology such as double-Vanos, the liquid-cooled alternator or the exhaust system with catalysts close to the engine and exhaust gas recirculation, the dynamic driving qualities of the engine are enhanced to a new level of perfection.
